Snowy is an artist based near Tipperary Town. They are currently studying Contemporary Applied Art (Ceramics, Glass, and Textiles) in the Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork (CCAD). Snowy has been creative for as long as they can remember. From a young age, they were interested in Lego and construction, drawn to the physicality and tactile nature of working with one’s hands. Paper and Origami has been an interest of Snowy’s from childhood, heavily inspired by a family member.
Over the pandemic Snowy became interested in the historical recreation of garments. Later on, it began to learn how to crochet. They have made garments, and 3-dimensional figures in this method. These interests inspired Snowy to pursue a year studying Fashion Design and Textiles in Limerick College of Further Education (LCFE). The year covered knitting, embroidery, drawing, garment construction, fabric manipulation, and pattern drafting. Snowy graduated the course with Distinctions in all modules.
Their next journey in creation cultivates intrigue with the different mediums of ceramic and glass in CCAD. A significant change to the flowing fabrics they have previously worked with. It has also introduced them to more variation and uncertainty leading to pleasant and not so pleasant surprises.
Snowy is excited to see the development of the Art Scene in Tipperary after time spent studying in Cork. They have spent time working with Creative Places Tipperary Town the previous summer. With the birth of TARTs, Snowy is finding their place among the creatives of Tipperary.
Beginning the artist’s journey is leading Snowy to adopt a go-with-the-flow attitude to creation. With so many interests and things that spark ideas, it can be difficult to pin down the next step; the next project, the next creation.
